Admission to the Practice of Law in Ohio

The Supreme Court of Ohio has announced its intention to administer the NextGen Bar Exam starting in July 2028.

Under the Ohio Constitution, the Supreme Court has exclusive authority to regulate admission to the practice of law, the discipline of attorneys, and all other matters relating to the practice of law.  Pursuant to this constitutional grant of authority, the Supreme Court has promulgated Rules for the Government of the Bar. Rule I addresses admission to practice.

  • Request for Replacement Wall Certificate
  • Request for Copy of Previously Filed Application
    *The retention policy for the Bar Admissions Section is 10 years. If your request pertains to a file older than that, your file has been destroyed. If a letter to that effect is needed, please email your request directly to: baradmissions@sc.ohio.gov
  • Request for Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) Score Transfer
    *Requests for in-person MBE scores from the last 7 years must be requested through the NCBE via MBE Score Services. Requests submitted to the Bar Admissions Section within this time frame will be returned. *MBE Score Transfer forms for other jurisdictions should be submitted to the Bar Admissions Section, Supreme Court of Ohio, 65 S. Front St. Columbus, OH 43215, with the required $15 certified check, personal check or money order, made payable to the Supreme Court of Ohio.
