Law Clerk to the Supreme Court of Ohio

This position of Law Clerk to the Supreme Court of Ohio offers recent law school graduates and new attorneys a unique opportunity to contribute to significant legal work within the Court’s Office of Legal Resources while gaining invaluable professional experience.
Position Overview
The Law Clerk will play an integral role in supporting the Supreme Court of Ohio by drafting legal memoranda and analyzing complex legal matters. This position focuses on the Court’s non-discretionary docket cases, which encompass extraordinary writs, practice-of-law matters, and specialized cases, such as election law, state and local tax appeals, workers' compensation cases, death penalty-related proceedings, and public utilities cases.
Working under the guidance of the Court’s Master Commissioners, the Law Clerk will refine legal writing and research skills essential for a successful legal career.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting legal memoranda and per curiam opinions.
- Performing comprehensive legal research on a variety of issues.
- Assisting in the analysis of cases from initiation through all litigation stages.

Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following qualifications to be considered:
- Recent completion of law school.
- Admission to a state bar or scheduled to sit for the bar examination before the clerkship begins.

Clerkship Term and Compensation
The Law Clerk position is a one-year term beginning in September, with the possibility of extension for a second year.
