Touring the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center

Policies and Procedures

Tours of the Thomas J. Moyer Judicial Center cannot exceed 120 people, including children and adults. Groups of 120 or more must schedule two separate visits.

Review our information about group sizes and tour length.

  • Groups of 39 or less will tour as one (1) group.
  • Groups of 40 – 74 visitors will tour as two (2) groups.
  • Groups of 75+ will tour as three (3) groups.

Please have your groups assigned before arrival.

For school groups, we recommend at least one (1) chaperone for every 10 students.

Due to space limitations, we ask you bring no more than one (1) chaperone for every five (5) students.

Chaperones visiting the building are asked to remain engaged throughout the field trip experience to be positive role models for their students. This includes providing assistance as groups move through the building, refraining from side conversations during the tour, and limiting cell phone usage.

Please refer to your confirmation email. Most school groups will be directed to the tour group entrance at 66 S. Civic Center Drive. There are spaces for buses to pull off to drop students off at this entrance.

Most public groups may be sent to the main entrance at 65 S. Front St.

The Supreme Court of Ohio does not have its own parking. It is the responsibility of the visitor to arrange parking. Bus parking is available for a fee at the Veterans Memorial Lot

Other private parking options are listed on the Supreme Court website

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time to allow enough time to enter the building and proceed through security.

If you will be more than 10 minutes late for your tour, please call our office at 614.387.9223. We will do everything we can to accommodate your tour without disrupting other scheduled groups. This could mean your tour will be shortened and certain activities eliminated.

We do not have indoor space available for groups to eat lunch. The plazas at either end of the building are open to the public and can be used by groups to eat lunch, if the weather permits.

We can store your lunches inside the building. However, they must be stored together in boxes or bags to go through security screening. Our Court Security staff is unable to screen individual lunches.

All adults and students in grades six (6) and up must proceed through security screening.

Visitors may bring bags, but they will need to be screened.

We ask that you pack as light as possible to avoid slowing down the security screening process and delaying the start of your tour. Please note, we do not have space to store bags during the tour.

More information about the Court security policy is available on the Supreme Court website.

The Moyer Judicial Center is a working office building. We ask that all groups keep their voices down while in the building to avoid disturbing Court business.

There is no gift shop in the Moyer Ohio Judicial Center.

Restrooms in the Moyer Judicial Center are small. If possible, please make restroom stops before arriving at the building. Large numbers of students needing to use the restroom will significantly delay the start of your tour or your departure.

The Moyer Judicial Center is an accessible building, and elevators are available on tours. If you anticipate a need for a wheelchair, please let us know in advance.

Visitor photography and video are generally permitted throughout the tour if it does not become a distraction for other guests or your tour guide.

  • Photography and video are NOT permitted in the security screening areas.
  • Photography and video are NOT permitted when Court is in session.

You or your group members are welcome to share photos from your visit to your own personal or organizational social media. By tagging the Supreme Court of Ohio, you give your permission for the Court to repost, re-share, or retweet your content.

The Supreme Court of Ohio does NOT share photos of minors to promotional materials or social media without signed release forms.

Photo Opt-Out Policy for Visitors 18 and over:

The Supreme Court of Ohio reserves the right to take photographs of facilities, events, staff, and visitors in any areas of the building where subjects would not have an expectation of privacy.

The Supreme Court of Ohio uses photographs, photographic images, names, and audio/video recordings of visitors for general publicity in publications, on its website, on social media, etc. Your presence in the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center constitutes your consent to capture and/or use your image or likeness without remuneration.

The Supreme Court of Ohio does not collect release forms from staff members or visitors for the use of images or films taken on campus. The Supreme Court of Ohio understands that there may be employees, students (or parents/guardians of such person if under the age of 18), or guests who may wish to not be photographed or have their image used for Court-related purposes.

Those who do NOT want to be photographed are responsible for notifying the Civic Education team and the camera operator of their opt-out status, and/or removing themselves from any event where photographs/videography are in use. Failure to do so may result in the visitor’s inclusion in a photograph or recording and will be treated as a release, allowing the Court to utilize that photograph or recording accordingly.
