Judicial Candidates, Appointees, New Judges, and New Magistrates


Required Education for Judicial Candidates

All judicial candidates, including incumbent judges, are required to attend a two hour seminar on campaign practices, finance, and ethics, pursuant to Rule 4.2(A)(4) of the Code of Judicial Conduct.

Required Education for New Judges and Magistrates

All new judges — elected and appointed, part-time and full-time — are required to participate in the four-part New Judges Orientation Program, pursuant to Gov.Jud.R. IV(3)(E).

Mandatory Ohio New Judges Orientation Program:

Part I: New Judges Orientation, Part I Dec. 9-12, 2024
Part II: New Judges Orientation, Part II May 12-15, 2025
Part III: Capital Cases Seminar April 3-5, 2025 or April 9-10, 2026
(see Gov.Jud.R. IV(3)(E)(2)(c) for the common pleas judges required to attend within 24 months of assuming the bench.)
Part IV: Judicial College Mentor Program First year of judgeship
