Women in Law

An interactive panel where visitors can explore and read the stories of the 13 women who have served or are currently serving as justices on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Each story provides visitors with a glimpse into the background and journey of the justices: Florence Ellinwood Allen, Blanche Ethel Krupansky, Alice Robie Resnick, Evelyn Lundberg Stratton, Maureen O’Connor, Judith Ann Linzinger, Yvette McGee Brown, Sharon L. Kennedy, Judith L. French, Mary DeGenaro, Melody J. Stewart, Jennifer Brunner, and Megan E. Shanahan. 

With an interactive screen, visitors can explore featured stories about influential women in Ohio law such as, Stephanie Tubb Jones, a Black woman who achieved many first and Kathleen Burke, the first female president of the Ohio Bar Association. Visitors can also view a photo gallery of 18 historical events and moments. Finally, visitors can take a six-question multiple choice quiz to test the retention of what they’ve learned. 

This collection offers numerous articles on the history of Ohio women in law. Visitors can explore Ohio’s history through eras, such as Admissions, Education, and Advocacy (1879-1959), or by topic such as Sojourner Truth and her speech as an orator and abolitionist in Akron, as well Edna Lavina Gray, one of Cincinnati College of Law’s first female graduates. With over three pages of articles and information, visitors are sure to gain a deeper understanding of the different roles women have done in the legal field.
