The Supreme Court of Ohio held oral arguments at Miami Trace High School on the morning of April 27, 2022, as part of its Off-Site Court Program. The program educates high school students and other Ohioans about the state’s judicial system.
Public, private, and home-schooled high school students from Fayette County were invited to participate. Students and their teachers were provided with curriculum material to study before the session, including summaries of the specific cases to be argued. Local attorneys teamed with educators to explain Ohio’s judicial system and review case materials.
At the Court session, students attended one of the three cases being heard that morning. After their assigned case was argued, each student group met with the case attorneys for a debriefing.
Established in 1987 by Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer, the Off-Site Court Program has taken the judiciary in person to local communities across Ohio for more than 30 years, enabling 42,649 Ohioans, 33,689 of them students, to personally observe the proceedings of the Supreme Court and interact with justices, attorneys, and court staff.The next session of Off-Site Court will take place in the spring of 2023.
