More than 450 Seek to take February Bar Exam

A total of 458 applicants have applied to take the February 2012 Ohio Bar Examination, the Supreme Court of Ohio announced today.

The February 2012 Ohio Bar Exam will be administered Feb. 28 through March 1 in Columbus. Nov. 1, 2011 was the deadline for filing applications to take the first bar exam in 2012. Of the two annual bar exams, fewer attorney hopefuls take the February exam than the exam in July.

Of the applicants, 410 Ohioans from 48 counties applied to take the exam with Cuyahoga County and Franklin County leading the way with 92 applicants each. Forty-eight out-of-state applicants applied to take the exam.

The bar exam is administered by the Supreme Court, which regulates the practice of law in Ohio, including the admission of new attorneys, the biennial registration of current attorneys, attorney discipline in cases of misconduct, and the administration of continuing legal education.

Twice a year, the Court publishes in the Ohio Official Reports Advance Sheets and online a list of the names, cities, and counties or states of residence of those persons who have applied for admission to the practice of law in Ohio. The Court also distributes copies of the list to all regional and local bar association admissions committees.
