Portage County Courthouse

Image of the Portage County courthouseThe Portage County Courthouse was designed by architect C.G. Kistler and built in 1960. The building, located at 203 West Main St. in the county seat of Ravenna, is still in use today and houses the Portage County Court of Common Pleas and its criminal and domestic relations divisions, as well as the Portage County Municipal Court.

The building features a simple brick design with large square windows in the front.

Portage County is named after an Indian trail that linked the Cuyahoga and Tuscarawas rivers and was known as the “Portage Trail.”  The Portage Trail derives from the former travelers who used to portage their canoes along the trail.
