Chief Justice Named Saint Joseph Academy 2014 Distinguished Alumna

Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor received the 2014 Distinguished Alumna Award from Saint Joseph Academy on Sunday.

During the ceremony, at which three other women also were honored, Chief Justice O’Connor spoke about how her role is supportive of the mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

“I believe my service as a judge mirrors the Sisters’ mission and vision to serve all of our neighbors without distinction,” she said. As a judge I’ve taken an oath to uphold the highest ideals of the profession. I’ve sworn to ‘administer justice without respect to persons’ and concluded that oath by stating I answer to God. So, in this way I share your mission of serving our fellow men and women under God.”

As part of the two-day celebration, Chief Justice O’Connor and the other recipients were also invited to address an all-school assembly. Chief Justice O’Connor used that opportunity to share some advice with the students.

She told the freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior girls to get involved with any many clubs and activities as they can, to turn their passion into a career if at all possible, and to not be afraid of a little hard work.
