Conversation with Justice McGee Brown Highlights Launch of Revitalization Movement

Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Yvette McGee Brown was featured Sunday during an event to kick off a revitalization of Columbus’ near east side. The Justice told her personal story of growing up on the east side of Columbus during a community celebration organized by Partners Achieving Community Transformation (PACT), a partnership committed to transforming the area.

“The neighborhood was a genuine community back then, providing direction and support for us. There was tough love and strong discipline," Justice McGee Brown said. The Justice’s mother worked two jobs to keep the family off public assistance. “I applaud and support PACT’s efforts to restore the community — drawing churches, neighbors and businesses together — to bring back affordable, quality housing to the area in a way that welcomes all segments of our population and to bring safety back to our neighborhood,” Justice McGee Brown said. “This is exactly what our children and families need and deserve.”

PACT is a partnership among the city of Columbus, The Ohio State University, The Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority and near east side stakeholders committed to a historic transformation of the neighborhood.

Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman and OSU President E. Gordon Gee also attended.
