Justice Cupp Commends Retiring Bellefontaine Municipal Judge Ross

Joining Bellefontaine Municipal Judge John Ross’s friends, family, and local attorneys, Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Robert R. Cupp helped honor the judge at a retirement reception on Dec. 28 in Judge Ross’s Logan County municipal courtroom.

Judge Ross was appointed Bellefontaine Municipal Court Judge in 1986, and was elected to and has held the judgeship since 1987. With approximately 11,000 new cases filed each year in the Bellefontaine Municipal Court, Justice Cupp thanked Judge Ross for his 26 years of service.

“Judge Ross has administered justice in Logan County in a commendable manner,” Justice Cupp said. “He has consistently maintained, decided, and resolved cases on a very timely basis, which is what parties involved in legal disputes want - timely and fair decisions.”

“It’s always an honor to have a judge be recognized by the Supreme Court of Ohio, but when it’s Western Ohio’s favorite son Bob Cupp, it’s an extra honor,” said Judge Ross.

Judge Ross received his law degree from The Ohio State University in 1973. He has served as president of the Logan County Bar Association and was a member of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Modern Courts Committee. Judge Ross is a member of the Ohio Judicial Conference’s Ethics Committee.

Justice Cupp is serving his first term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. An Allen County native, he previously was a judge on the Ohio Third District Court of Appeals and served as a state senator for seven counties in west-central Ohio for 16 years. Before being elected to the legislature, Justice Cupp was a Lima City prosecutor and assistant director of law as well as an Allen County commissioner. He earned his political science degree from Ohio Northern University in 1973 and his law degree from ONU’s Pettit College of Law in 1976.
