Justice Cupp Gives ITT Technical Institute Commencement Address

Justice Cupp visits with student speaker Michelle Bailey after ITT Tech's commencement ceremonies.Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Robert R. Cupp gave the commencement address to ITT Technical Institute graduating students on Thursday night in Powell.

The students received degrees in criminal justice, computer networking, computer electronics, computer drafting and design, and business.

“I hope you will consider this current accomplishment as but a resting point before you spread your wings once again and rise to new heights as your learning enters a new phase,” Justice Cupp said.

Justice Cupp told the students to continue to strive for excellence and to “put your heart and soul into everything that you do.”

“I believe in the axiom that what we get out of something depends, in large measure, on what we put into it,” he said.

The ITT Tech students are part of the fall graduating class.

Justice Cupp is serving his first term on the Supreme Court of Ohio. An Allen County native, he previously was a judge on the Ohio Third District Court of Appeals and served as a state senator for seven counties in west-central Ohio for 16 years. Before being elected to the legislature, Justice Cupp was a Lima City prosecutor and assistant director of law as well as an Allen County commissioner. He earned his political science degree from Ohio Northern University in 1973 and his law degree from ONU’s Pettit College of Law in 1976.
