(Dec. 2, 2010) The Supreme Court of Ohio has indefinitely suspended the license of attorney Jeffery A. Zapor, formerly of Columbus, who currently resides in Sylvania, for misappropriation of funds belonging to a client for whom Zapor was serving as a court-appointed guardian. Zapor, who entered a guilty plea and was convicted on a felony count of theft based on his misappropriation, has been under an interim license suspension since March 2010.
In today’s 7-0 per curiam opinion, the Court adopted findings by the Board of Commissioners on Grievances & Discipline that Zapor’s actions violated multiple state attorney discipline rules. The rules Zapor was found to have violated included those that prohibit conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation, illegal activity that reflects adversely on an attorney’s honesty or trustworthiness, conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice and making a false statement of fact to a tribunal.
In imposing an indefinite license suspension with no credit for the time Zapor has been under an interim felony suspension, the Court specified that he will not be eligible to apply for reinstatement until November 2012 and also specified conditions for any future reinstatement. These conditions included that Zapor engage in no further acts of misconduct, comply with a recovery contract with the Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program, and submit evidence that he is fit to return to the practice of law and has controlled the substance abuse and gambling issues that contributed to his current misconduct.
