Findlay Court Director Named ICM Fellow
Another Ohio court professional joined an exclusive club last month by graduating from a National Center for State Courts (NCSC) certification program.
David D. Beach, Findlay Municipal Court director of court services, became an Institute for Court Management (ICM) Fellow after completing the rigorous requirements of the program.
Beach spoke of the ICM experience in the acknowledgements section of the research paper he presented as part of the program.
“My horizons and field of thought were greatly expanded through my interaction with the instructors and members of the 2011-2012 ICM Fellows Program,” he wrote. “Not only did I learn vast amounts of new knowledge and additional ways in which to view various scenarios, but made some very good friends along the way.”
The intensive four-phase educational program enhances the skills of court professionals in management and leadership positions. As part of the program, participants must design and complete an independent research project and present a written report approved by the dean of the program. Upon successful completion, participants are eligible to attend the program presentation phase, a four-day master class held in Washington, D.C. Associate Justice Antonin Scalia presided over the May 11 graduation ceremony at the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Ohio Supreme Court works with the ICM to offer courses in the Court Management Program (CMP), which is the first step court professionals must complete on their way to Fellow status. Since 2002, the Ohio Supreme Court and NCSC have jointly offered the CMP to court leaders at a reduced cost. To date, nearly 200 Ohio professionals have completed the CMP.
