Justices Named to Women's Bar Foundation Leadership Institute
Three members of the Supreme Court of Ohio have been named to the leadership group for a program the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation is launching to cultivate, promote, and enhance the leadership skills of woman attorneys.
Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor and Justices Judith Ann Lanzinger and Yvette McGee Brown will serve on the advisory board for the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation’s Leadership Institute, which will bring together exceptional women attorneys from across Ohio to attend practical, interactive training by successful lawyers and business professionals in areas such as, business development strategies, effective communication techniques, social media, and public speaking.
“Women still make up a minority of the bar in Ohio, and this program is an opportunity for us to support a diverse bar and nurture the future women leaders of the profession,” Chief Justice O’Connor said.
“This outstanding program was created by top women leaders in Ohio who understand what it takes to be a leader,” says Valoria Hoover, President of the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation and Managing Partner at the Columbus Office of Kohrman Jackson & Krantz PLL.
Other members of the Advisory Committee include: Joan U. Allgood; The Honorable Vernelis Kinsey Armstrong, U. S. District Court, Northern District; Marcia Egbert, The George Gund Foundation; Maria A. Kortan-Sampson, Goodrich Corporation; Cynthia C. Lazarus, Flying Horse Farms; Margaret J. Lockhart, Cooper & Walinski, LPA; former Ohio Attorney General Betty D. Montgomery, MacMurray Petersen & Shuster; Kathleen Hayes Ransier, Vorys Sater Seymour & Pease LLP; Mary W. Sullivan Peck, Shaffer & Williams LLP; and Maxine S. Thomas, Charles F. Kettering Foundation.
The Ohio Gender Fairness Survey and the National Association of Women Lawyers survey both find women attorneys lag behind in leadership positions. “It is our goal to give women the necessary skills to become successful leaders,” says Hoover. The mission of the Leadership Institute is to advance inclusiveness within the legal profession and supplement the professional skills of women lawyers by enhancing their leadership, business development, and communication skills for the benefit of the diverse communities in which they work, live, and serve.
“I encourage emerging women attorney leaders to apply for this exclusive program,” says Hoover. Applications are available by contacting the Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation Office at 866.932.6922 or at admin@owba.org.
The Ohio Women’s Bar Foundation is the charitable counterpart of the Ohio Women’s Bar Association.
