Justices to Appear on Capitol Square Program
The Ohio News Network will air a joint interview with Supreme Court of Ohio Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor and Justice Yvette McGee Brown on Sunday during broadcasts of its Capitol Square program.
Chief Justice O’Connor and Justice McGee Brown recorded the program yesterday with host Jim Heath and covered a wide range of topics, including discussing the historic firsts they represent on the Supreme Court; the need for more diversity throughout the judiciary; and ways to improve the judicial branch.
Capitol Square airs on Sundays at 10 a.m., noon, and 7 p.m. and Mondays at noon on ONN. Capitol Square is a weekly political and issues talk show featuring debate among state and community leaders and political beat reporters.
As the sixth woman and 148th Justice to serve on the Supreme Court, Chief Justice O’Connor was elected in 2002, re-elected in 2008 and elected as the first woman Chief Justice in the history of the state in 2010. She has experience as a practicing attorney, magistrate, common pleas judge, and prosecuting attorney.
With the beginning of her term on Jan. 1, McGee Brown became the first African-American woman Justice in the history of the Supreme Court. She follows former Justices Robert M. Duncan and Lloyd O. Brown as the third African-American member of Ohio’s high court. In addition, she’s the eighth woman to serve on the Court and gives the Court its third ever female majority.
