Appellate Judges Meet for Annual Winter Session
Appellate judges from the 12 district courts of appeals across Ohio attended a specially designed judicial ethics course today as part of the Ohio Courts of Appeals Judges Association annual winter meeting.
Fifth District Court of Appeals Judges Sheila G. Farmer and W. Scott Gwin, Eighth District Court of Appeals Judge Patricia Ann Blackmon and Joseph Caligiuri, senior assistant disciplinary counsel in the Office of the Disciplinary Counsel, served as panelists for the discussion.
Topics included:
- Overall approach to ethical problems in their roles as appellate judges
- Ethical problems resulting from the administration of their dockets
- Issues arising out of Gov. Jud. R II, Section 4
- New disciplinary cases involving judges.
The one-day educational seminar organized by the Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College also featured sessions on the Void Sentence Doctrine in Ohio led by Ninth District Court of Appeals Judge Eve V. Belfance and a conversation about opinion writing led by Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton.
The Judicial College provides a comprehensive program of continuing education for Ohio’s judges, magistrates, acting judges, and court personnel.
