Supreme Court Adopts Amendments to Expand Felony Character Review
The Supreme Court of Ohio has adopted a rule change to expand mandatory Supreme Court review of the character, fitness and moral qualifications of applicants seeking to be admitted to the practice of law to anyone convicted of aggravated murder, murder, or any first- or second-degree felony.
The amendments also allow the Board of Commissioners on Character and Fitness more discretion in reviewing and approving the character, fitness and moral qualifications of applicants convicted of other felonies.
The new amendments to Gov. Bar R. I, Section 11 and Gov. Bar R. XX took effect May 1. Justices concurred 7-0 in adopting the amendments.
