Judge Warren Receives Ritter Award from Bar Foundation
The Ohio State Bar Foundation honored Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard K. Warren Friday for his “outstanding contributions to the administration of justice” at the foundation’s annual award dinner.
The Ritter Award recognizes “the accomplishments of the honoree in attaining and promoting the highest level of professionalism, integrity and ethics in the practice of law while assisting other attorneys, the courts and the public to envision and cause changes which improve the justice system in Ohio.”
Judge Warren, who serves as a member of the Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, was first elected to the common pleas bench in 1988 and has served as the Allen County court’s administrative judge since 1997. Before coming to the bench, he served as an assistant Allen County prosecutor and practiced law with the firm of Romey & Warren for 20 years. In 2007, he was recognized for the court’s innovative sex offender treatment program. He earned his law degree from the Ohio Northern University College of Law in 1966.
“The Ritter award is a symbol of what we as judges and attorneys should be doing on a daily basis,” Judge Warren said. “We are to follow the law and act courageously. We should not be afraid to initiate new programs and changes to improve the law and our communities.”
Justice Robert R. Cupp, who lives in the Lima area, attended the awards ceremony.
Past Ritter Award recipients include the late Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer.
