Supreme Court Sends Noncompliance Reminder to Attorneys

The Supreme Court of Ohio Office of Attorney Services mailed out notices of noncompliance this week to those attorneys and judges who have not complied with the continuing legal education and reporting requirements for the 2010 reporting period.

Attorneys and judges may avoid sanction for noncompliance by filing written evidence demonstrating compliance postmarked on or before May 31. Attorneys and judges who demonstrate compliance will receive written confirmation from Attorney Services, and the notice of noncompliance will be withdrawn.

Those out of compliance still have an opportunity to avoid sanction by:

Failing to submit evidence of compliance or coming into compliance will result in a sanction or suspension from the practice of law by the Commission on Continuing Legal Education.

Prior compliance issues – such as an unpaid sanction from the immediate preceding reporting period, a third consecutive reporting period of noncompliance, or a New Lawyers Training hour deficiency – will result in a suspension and monetary sanction.

Those subject to a suspension should call Attorney Services at 614.387.9325 to determine what they must do to avoid suspension.
