Governor Appoints David Stansbury to Licking County Municipal Court
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland today announced the appointment of David Stansbury to the Licking County Municipal Court.
David Stansbury, 40, of Granville, fills the Licking County Municipal Court seat vacated by Judge David Branstool upon his appointment to the Licking County Common Pleas Court.
“David not only brings judicial experience to the court, but also a proven commitment to serving the citizens of his community through civic involvement and his distinguished legal career,” Strickland said. “David has been a lifelong member of the Licking County community and I know he will be a compassionate, thoughtful addition to the bench."
Stansbury will take the bench on July 12, 2010. To retain the seat, he must run in the November 2011 general election.
“I am deeply honored by the governor’s announcement and I intend to live up to the confidence he has placed in me,” Stansbury said. “Serving as acting judge in the municipal court and running my own law office have been excellent training for assuming the bench full-time. I look forward to conducting the court’s business and serving the people of Licking County.”
Stansbury is currently a solo practitioner in the Stansbury Law Offices. Since 2005, he has also served as an acting judge for the Licking County Municipal Court, hearing criminal, civil and traffic cases. From 1999-2004, Stansbury served as an associate at the Law Offices of Kirstin Burkett; focusing on Municipal, Common Pleas, and Juvenile Court litigation.
Stansbury is an active member of the Licking County community. He serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Licking County Alcoholism Prevention Program, serves on the Advisory Board of the Granville Recreation District, and serves as a judge for the State Mock Trial Competition sponsored by the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education. Stansbury is an active member of the Ohio State and the Licking County Bar Associations.
Stansbury received his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1993 and graduated from Boston University School of Law in 1996. He resides in Granville with his wife, Cathy, stepsons, Alex and Josh, and daughter Catie.
