Ohio Teachers Learn In-Depth Lesson on Branches of Government

Ohio government and history teachers learned about the three branches of government Tuesday and today at the Ohio Judicial Center and Ohio Statehouse. The teachers were participating in the annual Ohio Government in Action program sponsored by the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education.

The two-day seminar devoted to Ohio’s government and history, which concluded today, was designed for teachers by teachers using the state’s Academic Content Standards for Social Studies as their guide. The professional development opportunity also included information on citizenship rights and responsibilities, the Ohio Constitution and Ohio history.

The session on the judicial branch included welcoming remarks by Chief Justice Eric Brown, taking a tour of the Visitor Education Center, observing a Supreme Court of Ohio oral argument session, participating in tour hosted by Justice Robert R. Cupp and visiting with Justices Evelyn Lundberg Stratton, Maureen O’Connor, Terrence O’Donnell, Judith Ann Lanzinger, and Cupp at lunch.

The Statehouse portion of the program included a welcome by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a tour of the Governor’s Historical Office and lunch and meetings with legislators.
