State Fire Marshal Offers Ohio Arson Seminar for Judges, Prosecutors

Ohio judges can take an in-depth look at arson at two upcoming Ohio Arson Seminars offered by the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal.

The sessions – May 19 in Massillon and June 9 in Xenia – will include presentations on prosecuting arson cases, processing evidence at the State Fire Marshal Forensic Laboratory, evidence and preservation, death investigations, fatal fires, and available federal assistance.

“Arson is a violent crime that causes millions of dollars in damages and claims multiple lives in Ohio each year,” said Interim State Fire Marshal Donald Cooper. “These seminars are designed to assist prosecutors in successfully prosecuting an arson case and to provide judges with a deeper understanding of the crime of arson and its investigation.”

State statute requires the State Fire Marshal to offer the seminar twice a year, which is designed to provide current information, data, training, and techniques relative to the prosecution of arson cases.
