Visitor Education Center Planning for Busy Spring

Many teachers from around Ohio are looking ahead, past the cold winter months, and planning spring field trips to the Supreme Court of Ohio Visitor Education Center.

Student tours of the center are booked for every day in May, with some time slots still available. Julie Manning, civic education coordinator, said a number of schools began booking spring trips almost 12 months in advance.

“May is always busy, particularly this year. Teachers planning a trip may want to consider calling sooner rather than later,” Manning said. “The months of March and April are also popular times to visit and offer more availability.”

Almost 50,000 visitors have toured the education center since it opened four years ago.

The education center offers student and adult visitors an inside look at Ohio courts. The interactive exhibits portray the workings and history of the judiciary with hands-on materials, bold graphics and engaging videos. Five new exhibits feature the use of science in the courtroom.

A civic landmark, the Ohio Judicial Center features an array of murals, mosaics, bronze sculptures and carved symbols that reflect the state’s rich history.

The Visitor Education Center is located on the ground floor of the Ohio Judicial Center, two blocks west of the Ohio Statehouse. Guided tours are offered free of charge for groups of eight or more and must be scheduled in advance. Arrangements can be made by calling 614.387.9223 or e-mailing courttours@sc.ohio.gov.
