Ohio’s first statewide standardized risk/needs assessment tool for young offenders was unveiled Friday by the Department of Youth Services (DYS).

Ohio juvenile court judges should have received a letter via e-mail (through the Ohio Judicial Conference) from DYS Director Thomas J. Stickrath explaining the background and capabilities of the Web-based Ohio Youth Assessment System (OYAS). Friday’s news clippings from the Supreme Court of Ohio also included a story about the assessment tool.

Judges should keep in mind that they must attend a two-day training session and pass a certification test before they can use the assessment tool.

Access more information about the OYAS tool, training dates and the registration form.
