Supreme Court Issues Corrected Traffic Ticket

The Supreme Court of Ohio today announced the adoption of a corrected traffic ticket that was previously published on Oct. 19.

New language adopted by the Supreme Court in Traf. R. 13(D)(1) was not included in the previous version. The language permits a defendant to dispose of a citation through the Traffic Violations Bureau at any time before arraignment rather than the current requirement of disposal within seven days after the ticket is issued.

The corrected language can be found on the reverse side of the defendant’s copy under the checkbox for “Waiverable through traffic violations bureau.” The phrase “within seven days of the day you receive the ticket” has been replaced with “at any time prior to arraignment.”

The corrected ticket becomes effective Jan. 1, 2010, and mandatory on July 1, 2010. Jurisdictions are permitted to use current tickets until supplies run out or until the mandatory date of July 1, 2010.
