Rules of Superintendence Update Planned

Changes to the Rules of Superintendence will be the focus of a Feb. 27 course offered by the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Judicial College.

Judges, magistrates, acting judges and court personnel can view the video teleconference at 21 locations around the state. The course will cover changes since 2006 resulting from Supreme Court decisions, recommendations from Supreme Court advisory committees and task forces, and revisions based on updates to the Ohio Revised Code.

Some of those changes include new public access and security rules that will impact local courts this year and rules relating to commercial dockets, guardians ad litem, mediators and protection order forms.

Justice Maureen O’Connor, members of the Commission on the Rules of Superintendence and Supreme Court staff will lead the session.

Created in 1976 and governed by Gov. Jud. R. V, the Judicial College was established to provide educational programs and activities for Ohio judges. In 1988, the program was expanded to include court referees and magistrates, and in 1990 the college began to provide programs for non-judicial court personnel throughout the state.
