Municipal/County Judges to Learn About Stress Management at Summer Meeting
Managing the stress that comes with serving on the bench will be the focus of a session this week at the annual municipal/county judges summer meeting.
On Tuesday, Isaiah Zimmerman, Ph.D., an emeritus faculty member at the Washington School of Psychiatry, will present the latest research and practice on wellness and stress management, including positive involvement of the family and court staff. Zimmerman will also discuss substance abuse issues.
Zimmerman’s “Judicial Wellness” presentation notes that “judges work at the convergence of powerful and contradictory demands, fundamentally unlike other high officials. Heavy and growing dockets, restrictions on public speech, intense media exposure, wide ignorance of their role and the isolation of their position all contribute to high levels of stress for them and their families.”
The Association of Municipal/County Judges of Ohio three-day conference also features sessions on avoiding pitfalls with default judgments, an overview of the Ohio Courts Network, Indigent Drivers Alcohol Treatment fund issues, caseflow management tips and advice on problem solving.
