National Interpreter Conference Features Ohio Connections

Two members of the Supreme Court of Ohio Advisory Committee on Interpreter Services have prominent roles at this week’s National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT).

Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Ronald B. Adrine, who serves as chairman of the advisory committee, will deliver the keynote luncheon speech on Saturday at the 30th annual gathering in Scottsdale, Ariz. First elected to the bench in 1981, Judge Adrine was elected the municipal court’s administrative judge and presiding judge by his peers in 2008.

Isabel Framer, a court-certified Spanish/English interpreter with Language Access Consultants LLC, serves as chair of the NAJIT board of directors. She presents Continuing Legal Education courses to judges and attorneys and training to law enforcement and has taught workshops to aspiring and practicing interpreters on ethics and professional responsibilities of judiciary interpreters.

Since its inception, NAJIT’s mission has been to promote quality services in the field of legal interpreting and translating. NAJIT members play a critical role in assuring due process, equal protection and equal access for non-English or limited English proficient individuals who interact with the judicial system.

Established by the Supreme Court in 2005, the advisory committee provides advice on the promotion of statewide rules and uniform standards concerning the establishment and operation of interpreter programs in Ohio courts and the development and delivery of interpreter services to Ohio courts including training programs for judges and court personnel.
