Judicial College Installs 2009 Board of Trustees Officers

Over its two-day annual meeting this week, the Judicial College installed its officers for 2009, reviewed its 2008 accomplishments and planned its direction for the year.

Judge Charles G. Hague, Ashtabula County Probate/Juvenile Court, will serve as chair, Judge Carla Moore, Ninth District Court of Appeals, will serve as vice chair and Judge Joyce A. Campbell, Fairfield Municipal Court, will serve as secretary to the board.

In addition, Judge Peggy L. Bryant, 10th District Court of Appeals, and Judge Michael W. Ward, Athens County Common Pleas Court, joined the board for 2009.

During the meeting, Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer thanked the outgoing chair, Stark County Common Pleas Judge Lee Sinclair, for his leadership and contribution to judicial and court personnel education. Judge Sinclair completed his second full term as a trustee and served for three years as chairman.

The Judicial College offers training and education to Ohio judges, magistrates and court personnel. In 2008, 9,216 attendees participated in 133 courses either in person or via video conference. The course curriculum ranged from mandatory new judge orientation to education regarding laws and management and human behavior courses.

The Judicial College, an office within the Supreme Court of Ohio, was created in 1976 to help judges meet their mandatory education requirements. It is partially funded by attendee registration fees and federal grants.

The college’s operation is guided by the 10-member board of trustees, which in addition to the above mentioned members in 2009 will include Judge Janet R. Burnside, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, Judge Denise McColley, Henry County Domestic Relations/Juvenile Court, Judge Jan Long, Pickaway County Probate/Juvenile Court, Magistrate Diane M. Palos, Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court, and Judge Jim D. James, Stark County Family Court.
