Open House to Honor Retiring Appeals Court Judge
After more than three decades of service to the judiciary, Judge William H. Wolff Jr. of the Second District Court of Appeals will retire Jan. 31.
An open house to celebrate his distinguished career will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Montgomery County Courts Building, 41 N. Perry St., fifth floor, in Dayton. There will be a presentation at 4:30 p.m.
A member of the appeals court since 1985, Judge Wolff started his judicial career as Dayton Municipal Court judge in January 1976. From July 1977 to June 1985, he served on the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court. He also served as assistant Montgomery County prosecutor and as a Dayton Municipal Court referee before becoming a judge.
Judge Wolff has been an instructor for the Ohio Judicial College and for the Ohio CLE Institute. He was an adjunct faculty member of the University of Dayton School of Law for 20 years and served on the faculty of the National Judicial College in the early 1980s.
His service has also included stints as chairman of the Ohio Judicial Conference and as Chief Justice of the Ohio Courts of Appeals Judges Association. He was also chairman of the Supreme Court’s Committee on the Appointment of Counsel for Indigent Defendants in Capital Cases.
