Reitz Elected to Leadership Position with National Clerks Organization

Amy Reitz, chief deputy clerk of the Supreme Court of Ohio, was elected recently to the 12-member executive committee of the National Conference of Appellate Court Clerks (NCACC). The election took place at the annual meeting in Sacramento, Calif.

Reitz will serve a two year term as part of the leadership team that oversees the group’s operations, develops policies and procedures, surveys future conference sites and discusses issues like further enhancements to “e-filing” in court. The group also interacts with other court organizations like the National Center for State Courts, which is exploring the possibility of reporting case statistics from appellate courts for comparison nationwide.

Reitz, of Upper Arlington, joined the NCACC in 2005. She has chaired the convention assistance committee and served as a member of the membership, site selection, nominating, awards, and program committees.

She said she’s excited to serve in this new capacity. “The annual meeting in August is the only time of year we all get together to share information about what’s going on in our courts,” Reitz said. “It’s a valuable exchange because we all experience similar issues and can learn from each other. This year, every story seemed to begin with how difficult budgets have had an impact on clerk’s offices.”

NCACC was organized in 1973, with current members throughout state and federal appellate courts. The conference has three main objectives: to improve the skill and knowledge required of those performing the duties of appellate court clerks by conferences, seminars or other educational programs; to promote and improve the contribution of the offices of appellate court clerks within the area of effective court administration; and to maintain facilities for the collection and dissemination of information and ideas with regard to the operation and improvement of the offices of appellate court clerks.
