Party to Honor Retiring Union County Judge

Eighteen years to the day his first term began on the bench in Union County, Common Pleas Court Judge Richard E. Parrott will retire Feb. 9.

Court staff, family and friends will gather to wish him well on Jan. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Union County Courthouse, 215 W. Fifth St., Marysville, in the common pleas rotunda and courtroom.

Currently serving his third term as judge for the general and domestic relations divisions, Judge Parrott’s service to Marysville and Union County stretches back to 1964 when he was law director for the City of Marysville. From 1965 to 1972, he was prosecuting attorney for Union County, and from 1981 to 1991 he served as Marysville Municipal Court Judge. He was also engaged in the private practice of law from 1960 to 1991.

Beyond his public service, Judge Parrott has judged and coached teams competing in the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education High School Mock Trial event and served as a judge at Buckeye Boys’ State. He’s a member of the American, Ohio State and Union County bar associations as well as the Ohio Judicial Conference and the Common Pleas Judges Association of Ohio and the Domestic Relations Judges Association of Ohio. Judge Parrott received his law degree from the Ohio Northern University Claude W. Pettit College of Law.
