Training Enables Accurate Caseload Data Reporting

Common pleas court personnel from around Ohio attended a training session last week on reporting caseload statistics to the Supreme Court of Ohio.

Ohio courts submit caseload data to the Supreme Court on a monthly or quarterly basis. Using the data, the Supreme Court’s Case Management Section identifies trends for local courts to help them better allocate resources. The statistics also form the backbone of the Supreme Court’s annual Ohio Courts Summary.

The training included:

Stephanie Hess, manager of the section, said common pleas personnel attended a training as recently as November, but there are many courts that have new judges and staff members due to November’s election who aren’t accustomed to the reporting requirements and forms.

“A critical component to the mission of every court is to inform Ohio citizens of its caseload activities,” Hess said. “Our Case Management staff members assist courts in meeting that mission through accurate and consistent reporting.”
