Chief Justice Speech Centers on Ensuring Judicial Impartiality
Supreme Court of Ohio Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer on Wednesday addressed the importance of ensuring judicial impartiality in a speech before the Columbus Metropolitan Club.
“The public’s trust and confidence in the judiciary has been undermined in recent years by expensive and often times misleading campaigns for judicial office,” Chief Justice Moyer said. “Some contested judicial campaigns are indistinguishable from the highly political campaigns for the other branches of government.”
The Chief Justice discussed various proposals that have been offered to reform the judicial selection process and said there would be a specific announcement on efforts in Ohio later this year.
