Photocopiers

  1. Any patron is permitted to use the photocopiers. Patrons will be charged $.05 per page for photocopies. Usage is on a first come, first serve basis.
  2. Gather all materials to be photocopied before retrieving a meter at the front desk.
  3. In compliance with the policies of the Auditor of State all photocopies must be paid for immediately upon completion of photocopying.
  4. If a patron does not have enough money to pay for the photocopies, all photocopies will be held at the front desk until full payment is received.
  5. All materials must be returned to the book truck located in the photocopy room.

Circulation Policies

  1. Patrons can check out materials for two weeks in the following areas: bluegreen (texts & treatises); gray (international); dark green (bound volumes of legal periodicals), and government documents. Patrons may renew these items once, either in person, by telephone or online.
  2. Patrons can check out materials for one week in the following areas: yellow (Federal); brown (ALRs & regional reporters); light green (legal encyclopedias); red (state materials other than Ohio). There are no renewals on these items.
  3. Patrons will not be permitted to check out materials in the following areas: blue (reference); orange (Ohio).
  4. All patrons will be able to check out five items at a time. No patron will be allowed to have more than five items checked out at one time.
  5. Library Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
    Monday - Friday, except holidays

Interlibrary Loans

  1. The library will loan materials that are not in high demand. Popular titles and materials used by Court staff will not be loaned.
  2. Books will be loaned for a 30 day period, with no renewals.
  3. Photocopies of articles or of sections of texts are available for loan.
  4. Requests for photocopies can be either in written form, e-mail, or made by telephone. Please limit request to ten (10) items per request.
  5. Patrons will be charged $.05 per page for photocopies. Patrons will also be billed for postage for copies mailed and charged the telecommunications costs for faxed copies.
  6. Payment for photocopies must be received by the library before any further materials will be sent.

Library Cards

  1. All library materials are subject to recall when needed by the Court. Therefore, borrowing privileges are restricted to individuals living and/or working in the Columbus metropolitan area.
  2. All patrons must complete an application form and show photo identification.
  3. Patrons must provide a street address. No Post Office Box numbers will be accepted.
  4. Library cards will be sent to the patron's home address.
  5. Chronic late returns of library materials can result in the loss of borrowing privileges.

Fax Machines

  1. Any patron is permitted to use the fax machine. Usage is on a first come, first serve basis. Supreme Court business takes top priority. A staff member must operate the fax machine.
  2. Patrons will be charged $.25 per page for local transmissions and the long distance telephone rate for long distance transmissions.
  3. Payment must be made at the time of transmission.
  4. There is no charge for faxes received at the library.
  5. If receiving a fax at the library, please inform the sender to provide both the name and telephone number of the receiver. Library staff will call patrons when a fax is received.

CD-ROM System

  1. Please inquire at the front desk if you have any questions or need any assistance with your CD-Rom research.
  2. There is a charge of $.05 for each computer print out copy. Copies will print at the circulation desk.

  3. State employees may receive computer print-out copies and downloaded information free of charge after having properly entered their names, names of agencies, and number of copies in the record book at the front desk.
  4. The Supreme Court of Ohio employees are entitled to receive computer print-out copies and downloaded information free of charge.
